The 5-member Districting Commission that is working to revise the boundaries of the County Council Districts based on the 2010 census data is holding two public meetings to receive comment from the public regarding the proposed new map of County Council Districts.
The meetings will be held on Wednesday, August 24th, one at 10AM and the other at 5:30 PM. Both meetings will be held at the Dively Room at Cleveland State University's College of Urban Affairs at 1717 Euclid Avenue. If you would like to make a public comment or simply learn more about the redistricting process, you should attend one of these meetings. Note that the two meetings are identical, just set up at two different times to accommodate people with different schedules.
The draft map that the Commission will propose makes no changes in Council District 2, which I represent. County Council District 2 includes Lakewood, Brook Park, and Cleveland Wards 18 and 19 in the West Park area. To find out more about the County Redistricting process, go to the Council's website at www.council.cuyahogacounty.us and click on "Council Districting Commission." As of this writing, the draft map has not yet been posted on this site, but I expect that it will be in the next few days.
The next meeting of the Districting Commission, other than the public comment meetings, will be on Thursday, September 8th at 2 PM in the Multipurpose Room on the 4th Floor of the Cuyahoga County Administration Building at 1219 Ontario Ave. The regular Districting Commission meetings are also open to the public.
The Districting Commission is expected to complete a new County Council District map no later than the first week in October. The new districts will be used for next year's elections.
